In women, hormones can be delivered orally, through the skin via creams and gels, and in pellet form.  Dr. Z does not recommend pills as they can increase your risk of blood clots and liver problems. Creams and Gels are too inconvenient and they take a long time to be effective. Pellets are ideal but they do involve an incision to the skin. Also, once the pellets are placed under the skin, you cannot take them out.

What about injections? 

Dr. Z has developed a protocol where women can get monthly injections of testosterone. The other hormones, estradiol and progesterone can be combined into one sub-lingual (under the tongue preparation) that you can take at bedtime. These hormones are all essentially identical to the ones your body once produced in abundance. They are made from yams (sweet potato) and in some cases, soybeans. Your symptoms and labs will be monitored on a fairly consistent basis to make sure that the levels do not get out of control AND your symptoms are improving.
