Microneedling is an aesthetic medical procedure that involves repeatedly puncturing the skin with tiny, sterile needles (micro-needling the skin) in order to induce endogenous production of cutaneous collagen.

How Does It Work?

The idea behind microneedling is similar to that of many other non-surgical skin-tightening procedures in that it aims to create a controlled injury underneath the skin’s surface, thereby inducing the body to respond by producing more collagen in the treated area. The skin plumps and thickens in response to the stimulus, reducing the appearance of scars, stretch marks, and fine lines.

Microneedling with the micropen uses 12-24 surgical grade needles to create small micro channels in the skin. After application of a topical anesthetic, the Micropen will be gently pressed against the skin while simultaneously gliding until the entire treatment area has been covered. This process results in thousands of superficial microscopic channels throughout the entire treatment area. These tiny injuries to the skin have 2 purposes.  The first is to allow creams/serums to penetrate to the deeper skin layers.  This allows us to precisely target the dermis where the problems we are trying to treat are located.  Secondly, the small injuries caused by the needles have been found to stimulate collagen formation. Collagen is the building block of the skin and this leads to skin tightening and smoothing of wrinkles.

Microneedling can be utilized to treat a number of skin conditions from the minor fine lines to acne scarring and stretch marks. Treatments can be repeated every 6 weeks. Includes a skin specific serum, repair cream and take home Vitamin A serum.
