PLATELET-RICH PLASMA (PRP) SKIN REJUVENATION THERAPY

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy is used to improve texture, fine lines, deep wrinkles, and scars. Originally used by orthopedic surgeons and athletic doctors as a way to accelerate the healing of injured tissues, the treatment is now popular in the cosmetic field due to its ability to revamp aging skin and has been coined the “vampire facial” due to its use of platelet-rich plasma (or PRP) injections. It’s a system that uses your body’s own processes to not only boost your complexion, but also increase your skin’s overall health. 

PRP treatment involves a simple blood draw which is then spun down using a centrifuge that separates the plasma and platelet portion. The PRP is then injected or infused back into the skin to stimulate collagen and regenerate new tissue growth. Platelets also contain substances called “growth factors” that activate and rejuvenate cells in our body.

WHAT TO EXPECT BEFORE AND AFTER PRP TREATMENT

A small amount of blood will be drawn from you. While the PRP is being prepared, your skin will be cleansed and prepared for the treatment. The injections take a few moments and are only mildly uncomfortable. The procedure is quick (30 minutes total), relatively painless, and requires no post procedure care or time off from daily events. Mild swelling, redness, or bruising fade within 1-3 days. The PRP is made from your own cells, virtually eliminating the possibility of negative side effects.

RESULTS

The goal of PRP skin rejuvenation therapy is to improve skin tone and texture, tighten skin, soften lines and pores. Results begin to show 3-4 weeks after the treatment session and continue to improve with time. Three treatment sessions are generally recommended, spaced 1-2 months apart, to achieve the best outcome.
